Game Summary
The tapping of keyboards in the Panther Press office have not written much about the performances of the Eltham seconds team but the efforts on Saturday are too hard to ignore. The collection of odd bods that took the field for the red and black were probably not expecting too much out of the game given that no Eltham open age team had beaten North Heidelberg at their kennel since 1975. Amongst them was the President who had not touched a football since round 3 and the Tresurer who was babysitting his kids in the pocket. Blacky and Whitey who mixed together would match the colour of their hair and two jet lagged Antipodeans (Burton & Irwin) who had found their way home. Pre-match the boys got a few encouraging words from the senior coach, which seemed to get a few reassuring nods and here heres. Then they ran out onto the frosted ground, with a few thinking an early spot on the bench would not be all that bad, and proceeded to limp into the game like every other week. But after the normal lethargic non-plus start the guys got it all together and made some history.

The fifty two point victory, breaking a 23 game losing streak for the twos against North (last win in 1975), was not the only remarkable feat of the game. President Philpots kicked five goals, which may in fact be an Eltham President's record, complementing the four kicked by best on ground Joel Hewish. One Bulldog player could not resist complimented Potsie by remarking that he was the worst player he had ever seen kick five goals.

Game Summary
If the Panther reserves could to something from the match it was their last quarter effort. It is very easy to comment from the safety of the sideline, however the real lack of belief in their ability shows every time the opposition gets a roll on. The boys do not work off each other, they go into their shell, drop in confidence and eventually they implode. Willo will have an honorary degree in psychology by the end of the season. Take a leaf out of the guys that follow you boys. There is nothing to loose but to work for each other, continue to talk, encourage and back each other up. That is the fundamental part in a team game. If a team fails in that area what hope have they got?

Game Summary
The boys played the first 10 minutes of the game when they banged on 4 unanswered, the first and last 10 minutes of the final quarter. With a never give in attitude, even though not playing the way they wanted to they willed themselves to win. A crunch mark and goal in the dieing minutes by Dan Irwin was sensational. Epping could count themselves unlucky.

Best

Game Summary
With the mix of more young blokes in the team the Eltham reserves team naturally moved quicker across the park and looked as though they may record their first scoreboard win for the season. In what was mainly a scrappy affair the old issue with the Panther open age teams reared its head again, lack of firepower. Eltham managed only 6-6-42 and could have snatched the game deep into the last quarter but two late goals to the Tiger saw them finish 18 points adrift. It must be a headache for coach Greg Wilson in his endeavours to guide the boys to a win in the absence of genuine goal scorers.

Of the young fellows, Ben Munn-Gibbs provided a target but the ball came in very haphazardly. Greg Strickland is lively, works hard and gets plenty of it but has to work on his kick penetration. Adrian Wilson continues to impress with a solid game in open age company and may get a call up to the later game soon. Keith Davidson showed plenty of strength and determination but will learn that he has more to offer in his ability to win the ball feed it onto team mates. Lyall Mee showed signs that he will develop into a good player with his sure hands and courage.

Game Summary
Nothing but woeful could describe the performance of the reserve grade team as they went into the game with a very strong combination. But as coach Greg Wilson explained to the boys, they failed dismally at the basics, attack on the football and talking.
The Panthers could not get numbers to the ball, lacked desire and displayed little or no skill or teaming. Their opposition was a very good disciplined side that stuck to their game plan exploiting the home teams' failings and the fifteen-goal thrashing reflected the unevenness of each side's approach. There is plenty of work to be done.
