24/09 AGM Ratings Loser
The EFC annual general meeting was held last night with the usual suspects turning up to listen to the sales pitch of the committee.       You know when the Club is travelling all right when the AGM is not packed and those that do front have no biting questions. If you make a loss it is high drama and everyone wants to watch the show. Luckily for Eltham this season the former is the case with the Club turning over $225K, up $75K since 2001, and making a profit of near enough to $3K. The Club has a healthy bank balance and is very much looking forward to season 2004.

The 2003 committee all stood again for re-election along with an additional three members and their nominations were accepted unopposed. The 2004 committee consists of the following EFC members: Ash Bray, Adam Downs, Andrew Hall, Steven Kilby, Leigh Miller, Dean Philpots (President), Byron Smith (Treasurer), Paul Smith (Secretary), Matthew Tallack, Matthew Weisheit (Vice President) and Colin Wilson.

Dean Philpots read a statement outlining the basic action plan for 2004 and beyond, namely concentrating on ensuring the Club is profit conscience, continues to invest in capital improvements and provides an atmosphere for players to develop. These were talked about in greater detail in an informal discussion and were warmly received by those present.

24/09 Four New Lifers
Four new life membership nominations were accepted by the members of the EFC at the AGM on Tuesday night and rewarded for their outstanding service to the Club.       David Brown, Andrew Hingston, Leigh Miller and Byron Smith all passed 200 open age games for Eltham playing from the 1980's right through the 1990's until now, not to mention also playing junior football for the Panthers.

David Brown started with the seniors in 1990, has been captain of the Club, best & fairest winner and four-time premiership player. Andrew Hingston started in 1987, was captain of the under 19's, a premiership player and a Club volunteer. Leigh Miller started with the seniors in 1989, is a dual premiership player, committee member for two years and volunteer. Byron Smith started in 1989, is a premiership player, past reserves captain and is going into his sixth season as a committee member. All four were worthy nominations for life membership and will hopefully continue to provide a valuable service and contribution to the prosperity of the Eltham FC that their new title suggests.

15/09 Sprint Disappointment
Eltham was very disappointed its sprint sensation Stephen Boyle was denied a chance to prove he is the fastest DVFL player in the Valley when the half-time sprint was cancelled on Saturday.       Competition officials called off the grand final half-time sprint stating that the six runners who had turned up was not enough to run the event. Perplexingly, they said that 10 were needed for the event to go ahead. Sadly no consideration was given to those that did turn up and were willing to run and represent their Club.

15/09 Grand Final Review
It was a good crowd who turned up to watch the division 1 grand final between the eventual winners West Preston Lakeside and minor premiers Montmorency.       However, the "fresh" breeze which always seems to blow stronger down High Street than it might in other parts of the Valley, made the trip and spectacle a little less worthwhile. You had to be of strong mind to survive the third quarter down pour, with the rain coming in horizontally it finished off many poorly designed umbrellas. But thankfully the wind that helped soak the back of your trouser legs also helped dry them. The beer was cold and plenty was drunk and the feeling in the crowd was the way it should be in local football, more relaxed and celebratory than antagonistic. A day for the Roosters and good luck to them.

11/09 Visitors Coaches Box
The visitors coaches box project involves demolishing the current coaches box and building a new one in exactly the same style as the "home" coaches box.       It would be positioned further around from its current position, about ten metres closer to the cricket nets.

The cost of the project (expected to be around $1,500) would be met by the football club. The Nillumbik Council regard the project as a capital improvement (rather than maintenance) that does not form part of their budgeted capital plans so they can not provide any funding and the cricket club has no use for the facility so their is no benefit to them of the project. The junior club may assist if approached.

The project has a number of benefits:
(1) Improves the professionalism of the venue, whereby in final's matches there is no advantage to either team.
(2) It makes visiting teams and guests to our club feel more welcome.
(3) It will help ensure that players and umpires are safe with no officials needing to stand on the ground while the game is being played.
(4) In conjunction with moving the visitors players race, it will provide a safer exit/entry to ground with the two teams spaced further apart.

It is planned that the away coaches box project will start at the same time as the scoreboard project so its planned to be finished and ready for use at the start of season 2004.

10/09 Ground Review
President Dean Philpots met representatives from the Nillumbik Council, Cricket Club and Junior Football Club on Tuesday night to specifically address the issues regarding the state of the Panther Park playing surface.       An examination of the soil constitution and the drainage was conducted to assist with the discussions. The issues raised were the current traffic using the ground, the use of Susan Street facilities, ground management and maintenance and the general future of the valued facility. The EFC will be consulting with all the interested parties to draw up an action plan to best manage the venue.

06/09 Congrats Neighbour Bridges
The Shire of Nillumbik may be the new force in Diamond Valley football after Hurstbridge thrashed hot favourites Lalor in the division 2 grand final.       Congratulations to all connected with the Hurstbridge Football Club and community on their success. With elevation to division 1 it is exciting to see new talent taking it up to the traditional stronghold of Club's in the DVFL. The task ahead may seem daunting but with enthusiasm, community support and a bit of luck anything is achievable. Nothing like ruffling some arrogant feathers. Well done and we are looking forward to taking on again one of our old rivals head-to-head.

06/09 Multi-Minney
Mark Minney won his third best & fairest on Friday night moving him into a league of his own in the Panther history books.       With his victory this season, only Anthony Devine (7) has won more of the highest on-field honour in the history of the club. Mark polled votes in 17 of his 18 games played finishing with 157 votes. Skip must love the odd numbered years with his previous wins coming in 1999 and 2001. Mark has now played 157 games for the club, all of which have been A Grade appearances.

Playing six games less and only 29 votes behind was Adam Contessa (128 votes). Adam joined the Panthers this year and immediately fitted into the club both on an off the field. From the very start he set a great example for all the players with his voice and hardness at the ball. Adam worked extremely well with Skips and the two of them contributed to one of the most potent mid-fields in the competition.

Michael Martin (98 votes) came third in the polling after scoring maximum votes in the last three games. Recruited from Brisbane Lions, Mick’s first crack at local senior football gained momentum from a inconsistent start to simply outstanding. Mick fitted well into the club and brought with him great pace and presence on the field.

Closing out the first dozen players were David Brown 67, Lach Richardson 62, Luke McCreery 59, Tom Richardson 53, Chris Moyle 24, Steven Kilby 19, Shannon Tate 19, Chris Brincat 16 and Anthony Mithen 16. Full votes will be published on this site at a later date.

27/08 Minney 5th in DVFL
Mark Minney capped off a sensational season for him personally by finishing fifth in the Division One best & fairest, the best result by an Eltham player since Andrew Dale finished second in 1990.       The 2003 senior vote count on Monday night saw Fabian Carelli of West Preston on 19 votes take out the prestigious Smith Medal from Heath Ayres (Bundoora) and Tim Watson (Montmorency) who were tied for second on 18 votes. West Preston's David Snow was fourth on 15 votes with Minney finishing one behind on 14. Mark polled in 8 games capturing the umpire's attention in 2 best-on-ground performances, 2 x 2 votes and 4 x 1 votes.

Other Eltham players votes were Micheal Martin 8 (3,2,2,1), Lachlan Richardson 6 (3,3), Chris Moyle 4 (3,1), Adam Contessa & David Brown 3 (2,1), Gavin Neville 3 (3) and Jimmy Stirton 1.

It was clearly the most votes a Panther team had accumulated in a first division season and is testament to the improvement the Club is experiencing as a whole.

27/08 Eltham B Votes Spread
Matthew Weisheit was the highest Eltham vote catcher in the seconds with only 4 votes (2,2).       Finishing with 3 votes were Andrew Hingston (2,1) and Brett Strickland (3). On 2 votes were Brett Aldred, Kalev Jones & Zennon Eaton. Those with 1 vote were Daniel Irwin, Danny Strickland, Glen Moriarty, Grant Pittard, Joel Hewish, Leigh Howse, Leigh Miller, Luke McCreery, Nicholas Richardson and Paul Smith. The seconds counting was won by David King of Bundoora with 26 votes.

27/08 Wilson Leads Future
Exciting Eltham prospect Adrian Wilson polled 6 votes (2,1,1,1,1) in the C grade competition B&F to finish as the highest Eltham player.       Polling in 5 games was a great achievement for Adrian considering the struggles the team had during the season. Greg Strickland was next with 5 (3,2) followed by Keith Davidson 4 (2,2), Nathan Peck 3 (3) and Lucas Barnes 1. Dean Triantafylidis (Bundoora) and John Piraina (West Preston) won the voting on 16.

06/09 Dan Eats His Cake
The polling was extremely tight in the B grade which allowed Dan Irwin to slip away mid-season and miss 9 games but still power home to win.       Dan practically parachuted into play the last two games and scored best on ground performances to come over the top of Scott Jackson (55 votes), Leigh Howse (54 votes) and Leigh Miller (52 votes) by the smallest of margins. Had Dan not taken his European vacation he was destined to play in the seniors, a goal he should achieve next year.

In fifth place was Nick Richardson 40 followed by Chris Brincat 38, Joel Hewish 38, Grant Pittard 33, Jason Mee 32, Andrew Willougaby 32, Simon Ereaut 31, Zennon Eaton 25, Luke Ferns 25 and Chris Morgan 25.

06/09 Is Young Moyle Better?
Andrew Moyle (120 votes) was a runaway winner in the under 19's voting from Adrian Wilson (87 votes) and Keith Davidson (68 votes).       Andrew played in all 16 games this year while still being eligible to play in the U/17’s. Andrew played mainly in the midfield and was consistently getting the ball whilst forming a formidable combination with Adrian in the engine room. In a season where wins were rare Andrew was an inspiration to his side.

Finishing in fourth was Lucas Barnes 58, then Robert Osbourne 52, Scott Weddell 40, Lyall Mee 39, Nathan Peck 37, Warren Evans 31, Greg Strickland 26, Aaron Whyte 26 and David Hewish 22.

21/08 Central Quagmire Park
Disappointingly and to some degree embarrassingly (in a drought) Eltham Central Park was deemed unfit to hold DVFL finals games, both senior and junior.       In fact the surface is a total disgrace with the least bit of water from June onwards consistently turning what is a beautiful ground into an unpleasant quagmire.

Yes, the issue has come to a head for the football club specifically due to the lost revenues that would have benefited the community if the finals matches were played at Eltham, about $20,000 to be conservative. Instead we are now going to have to beg for that money off the generous community businesses and football patrons. But just ask how much the cricket club has lost in earnings due to the poor condition of the surface. And just ask how many parents have gone down to Central Park for a run around with their kids only to be disappointed at its condition and their inability to even contemplate what they had in mind.

As the centrepiece of Eltham's recreational facilities it is a disgrace that each year it continues to be an inadequate play ground for anybody within the Eltham community for about four months. Why are they bothering with wetlands at Faulkner Street when the wild birds are at home in the quagmire we call Panther Park? The frustrating point is no one seems to be doing or saying anything different in regards to finding a solution to the problem. I'm sure the greater community wants something done about it as long as the costs are reasonable. No one has the required $150,000 to $250,000 to get a fully costed private contractor to fix the ground. So what are the cheaper and equally effective alternatives? These must be discussed and rationalised openly and objectively so that we can pro-actively turn an eyesore into an icon.

18/08 State of the Nation
This weekend sees the club's last home and away game for season 2003. What a fantastic year we have had.       We started out with some pretty simple goals a) to make a profit which we will just do, b) keep improving the surroundings of the club which we have done by fixing the fence near the creek and putting in new seats and c) staying in 1st division and that has also been achieved.

I can't tell you how happy I am, why stop the year lets make the season go to Christmas, of course I'm joking. All our supporters should be happy with the result of their effort no matter how big or small, it has contributed to our success. We have set the bar and now we need to raise it again in 2004. Next season I would like to see us move into the middle part of the ladder looking to improve our wins to eight and above to do this we need the continued support we are receiving. The next major project is building the scoreboard and re-locating the umpires. This should be completed before the start of the season which will make the off-season very entertaining.

It was officially announced that the club lost the right to host the 2nd Division final at our ground on this Sunday the 17th due to the state of the ground. We are still in the running for a final on Sunday the 24th but it appears unlikely at this stage. Lalor have been given the chance to host the finals instead of Eltham. The club has lost an estimated $20k due to the condition of the ground this year with the loss of the u/15 VMFL Championships in July and 2 weeks of Junior finals and now a Senior 2nd Division final. The committee will need to finds ways of improving the ground so we don't lose this kind of money next season.

This Saturday is the last home game against West Preston Lakeside and after the game the club will be open for a huge end of season party, so come down to watch the football and then stick around for the fun.

18/08 Scoreboard Project
The scoreboard project involves the erection of a new brick scoreboard building to house the umpire change room and a storage area on the ground level and the timekeepers and scoreboard facilities above.       The existing scoreboard is to be moved to the Susan Street oval with the new scoreboard placed in the vacated position.More

06/07 Unsung Warriors
The turn around in the teams performances has been greatly influenced by the inclusion of Joel Hewish, Nick Richardson, Chris Brincat and Matthew Weisheit.       They are a group of unsung players whose greatest attributes are their courage to put their head over the ball and cop a knock and their discipline and ability to carry out set tasks. Hewish and Brincat are young players in their debut seasons, and even though they are prone to make the odd mistake, the coach can rely on them to attack the ball and give a genuine contest. Nick Richardson understandably plays in the shadow of his younger twin brothers, but his job on Bundoora's Carmichael was excellent and his fearlessness to repeatedly mark in front of Bundoora's forwards significant in repelling any successful Bull fight back. Vice President Weisheit, retired by his peers, not because of his inability to play the game, but for his own health, continues to put the team first. He kept the dangerous Ayres to two goals in his stopping role and turned many defensive plays into attack with his skills and experience. These four players prove that you do not have to be the most complete player to compete successfully in a high grade of football like the DVFL division 1. By meeting every challenge and contest with 100% commitment and a desire to win sometimes puts you a long way ahead of more talented players that refuse to work as hard.

24/06 Big Donnie CAFL B&F
Donnie Lucero of the Orange County Bombers capped the win in the Grand Final by being named the winner of the 2003 CAFL Best and Fairest Award.       Donnie polled 21 votes to finally win after being runner-up twice previously. Brendan "Freddy" McDonald, of San Diego, finished in second place with 17 votes, with Jason Vanacour, of Arizona, in third place with 16 votes. Brad Waldron was the highest vote getter for Los Angeles, tallying 14 votes to finish in a tie for fourth place with Matty Bracher of Arizona.

24/06 OC Bombers Win CAFL Premiership
Former Eltham Panther players Adonias "Donnie" Lucero and David "Ice" Thurmond capped off a brilliant season in their local Califonian Australian Football League by leading their team to a premiership victory over the weekend.       In a physical, well-played, highly skilled match, the Orange County Bombers topped the San Diego Lions to win their second premiership. The win broke the Lions four-year stranglehold on the trophy. Orange County's playing coach, Mark "Disco" Seccull led his charges with 7 goals in a score of 13.7.85 to 10.9.69. Congratulations for "Donnie" and "Ice Thurmo" on their victory from all their team mates at Panther Park. Their legendary status only builds.

17/06 Thanks Hans
On the 25th of June the football club will lose a valuable person, no he isn’t a dashing half back flanker who has succumb to that knee injury.       Or a committee person who has too much work or family commitments it much worse then that, we lose one of our dedicated foot soldiers Hans Willemse to Queensland. The mad flying Dutchman is moving north for work opportunities and a slower pace of life. Well he certainly has achieved that you couldn’t get much slower then QLD. I am sure his talents will be well used in the sunny state. Hans has been a life long supporter at the club for the last 30 years he has been on the committee and is always willing to help around the club. Hans was made a life member in 2001 a honor that he said was a surprise. All sporting clubs have their dedicated supporters and when you lose one like Hans Willemse it is like your star player getting a career ending injury, the one that makes a difference. To Hans, all the best from all you friends at the Eltham Football Club. Hope you do well in you new home and work. All the Panthers will be looking forward to seeing you around the place once again on your fleeting trips down south. Who is going to drink you share of beer now? Barnsy has already said he can only drink so much so we are now looking for someone to step up to fill your shoes, if that is possible. Good luck.

09/06 Tired But Rewarded
The success of Eltham hosting the representative match over the Queens Birthday weekend could not have transpired without the help of the many Eltham members who volunteered their services so all their fellow members could benefit from hosting the day.       The following must be thanked - Laurie Strickland for marking the ground, painting on the DVFL logo and attending the Home Hardware scoreboard during the Colts game. Kalev Jones, Luke McCreery & Jeff Richardson for the scoreboard for the remaining two games. Leigh Miller for his lone stand at the Hahn Premium caravan. Andrew Hall, Darren Coath, Rob Jordan, Jason Johnson, Jim Lambeth & Adam Downs who ran with the spit roast at the Eltham Village Meats Can Hill Tents.

Life members Rory Curran & Hans Wilemse who continuously cleaned the Eltham Sportspower changing rooms and kept the umpires refreshed. Darren Arnel, Ash Bray & Andrew Clark who ran a solid Manningham Club Can Bar Booth amongst their many other thankless tasks. Terri Minney, Melissa Reynolds, Rachael Neille & Janette Haydock who had the momentous task of operating the extremely busy Lazanyas Bistro Canteen. Rod Haydock & Colin Wilson who stayed fresh whilst being the public face of the Club to the DVFL & EFL officials and their guests in the Eltham Subway Social Rooms. Dean Philpots & Matt Weisheit for keeping the beer flowing in the Overton Insurance Brokers Main Bar. Jayson Burleigh, Lloyd Mash & Mark Walker who did the big yards selling Eltham Newsagency raffle tickets.

09/06 Rep Rap Up
One of the biggest crowds ever to attend a football match at Eltham Central Park witnessed Eastern Football League triumph in all three games.       The 3,000 or so strong crowd were rewarded for their faith in the Eltham weather of what was truly an entertaining day of representative football between two of the best metropolitan competitions. The latter two games were each only decided in the final quarter keeping supporters on edge until the end.

Even after the heavy overnight rain the ground was in excellent condition, you might say picture perfect with the DVFL logo painted on the wing. The terraced wing was packed as never before, even more than the big Eltham v Research crowds in the late 80's, with the hungry and thirsty patrons keeping the food and drink stalls busier than ever.

The members of the Eltham Football Club were honoured to have the game held at their ground and wish to openly thank the Diamond Valley League for giving them the opportunity to host such a major event. Furthermore, it was fantastic to see so many supporters of both competitions come to Eltham and make the day the success that it was. The ground does have its detracting features, but the overall package that Eltham Central Park provides as a venue for such games enables it to stand tall amongst its peers.

14/05 From the President (umpire safety)
Two incidents happened at Central Park on the weekend that reinforced to me that the committee has the right attitude about the direction we are taking our ground.      

The first concern is umpire safety. We must ensure that the umpires are not housed on the same side of the ground as the players and the majority of supporters. Our club must make its number one priority to move the umpires into a new change room facility under a new scoreboard where the current scoreboard is situated. I would like to thank Paul Smith and Ash Bray for their forthright thinking in helping the umpire escorts with guaranteeing the protection of the umpires at the end of the game. I would like to apologise to the umpires if they felt any concern to their safety from the Eltham supporters. I will continue to place pressure on the Nullimbik Shire Council, the Eltham Cricket Club, the Eltham Juniors and our own supporters about finding the funds to relocate the umpires to a safer environment.

The second concern was highlighted again in puzzling but unnecessary circumstances on Saturday. The incident occurred when the Epping team manager intercepted the ball thrown back by one of our players to the recipient of a free kick. It resulted in a 25m penalty and a goal. I cannot believe that we, the Diamond Valley Football League, allow officials other than Club runners, water boys and trainers inside the fence. The space between the fence and the boundary line has no place for coaches, their assistants, team managers or resting interchange players. This not only will protect players on the field but also boundary umpires. It will stop confrontation from opposing players who have to walk past the opposition officials.

The Eltham Football Club would like to apologise to Epping and all other clubs who have or will be placed in the same position this season. I see no sense in allowing this unsafe practice to continue with the ramifications clearly evident on the Saturday when we played Lower Plenty in round 1.

07/05 Rep Game at Central the New Home of Representative Football
The Diamond Valley FL have reversed their decision to host the representative matches against Eastern FL at Epping and have moved the venue to our very own Eltham Central Park.       The Club is honoured to be hosting such a prestigious game and will be making all attempts to ensure the facilities are to everyone's satisfaction.

The Footy Record reported that the Eastern FL were very pleased with Eltham being chosen as the location for the game as it is closest to them. As a result the DVFL are expecting a big crowd to watch two of the premier local football competitions in Australia fight it out for supremacy.

The committee believes that this is another step in the process of improving Panther Park to ultimately achieve the goal of it being a major football and cricket venue in the Diamond Valley. High on the agenda is the extension and refurbishment of the changing rooms, the creation of safer access to the ground for players and the building of a new scoreboard.

30/04 Good Sports
Efforts to tackle the difficult issue of alcohol management in a sporting setting have resulted in the Eltham Football Club and the Hurstbridge Football Club both receive a Level 1 Certificate award under the Australian Drug Foundation’s Good Sports Accreditation Program.       more

03/04 2003 New Players
The Eltham FC welcomes 29 new players onto its senior list (including under 19's) to tackle season 2003.       It is fantastic to see so many players wanting to be a part of the exciting and important journey the Club is embarking on for the next few years. With the improvements to player and spectator facilities (already undertaken and in the pipeline) coupled with the approach to coaching, training and player development it is envisaged all at the Club will enjoy the spoils of association.

The notable recruits include Adam Contessa (Western Bulldogs), Michael Martin (Brisbane Lions), Simon Hunter (Wangaratta), Antony Mitern (Hammerheads), Shannon Tate, Justin Orwin (Montmorency), Matthew McPherson (Warrandyte) and the return of Cameron Waddell, Tom Richardson, Danny and Shannon Strickland. These players have ensured that our side this season will be the best it has ever been in our last three attempts in Division one.

From the 2002 finals squad the only player cleared is Luke Kennell (Panton Hill). Tim Borches and Adam Burton are both taking a break this season due to other commitments and premiership captain Craig McKay has retired.

On the back of recruiting Phil Maylin as senior coach, it is great news for the future of the EFC that Adam Contessa and Michael Martin have also officially committed themselves to the Panther cause.       Adam played 45 AFL games with the Western Bulldogs from 1997 until 2001. Last season he played with Glenelg in the SANFL. Being a bust through clean handling player he boosts the Clubs solidness around the packs and their in and under skills. Michael was selection no.12 - 1994 National Draft and played 58 AFL games up until last season with Brisbane Lions and before that with the Western Bulldogs. His pace, stamina and prolific kicking will strengthen the Panther on-ball division. But it will be the experience of Michael and Adam which should help their new team mates combine into a very exciting unit to watch.

03/03 Terrace Seating
The terrace seating project at Eltham Central Park was completed on the weekend.       Two new rows of sleeper seating were added to the existing single row to maximise spectator comfort. The project could not have gone ahead without the valuable assistance from MGS Garden Supplies, Steve Kilby Landscaping and the many volunteers who provided their time. On to the next capital works project...

06/02 Change Room Proposal
The Eltham Club met Thursday last week to have preliminary discussions on the much anticipated changing room re-development.       A delegate from the Eltham FC, Eltham Junior FC and Eltham Cricket Club met with Nillumbik Shire representatives to table priorities for the $170,000 project.

In summary, it was agreed at the meeting that the showering facilities would be given top priority. It was proposed that this would consist of the following:

1. Expanding the existing showering block to run the full length of the building (at the rear),
   
2. Include showering and toilet facilities for the players, and
   
3. Add a new umpire changing & showering area to adjoin the new showering block (located at visitors' side rear).
   

1. Expanding the home rooms by overtaking the space occupied by the existing medical room and old canteen,
   
2. Bricking in the veranda in front of the home rooms and turning that into the new medical room,
   
3. Bricking in the veranda in front of the visitor rooms to expand the visitor changing area and
   
4. Resurfacing the changing room floor for the entire area.
   

30/01 Panther Group Ups Ante
The Panther Club coterie group met for the first time this season at the Manningham Club on Wednesday night to discuss their strategies for the coming season.       Spokesperson for the stand alone social group, Colin Wilson said the Panther Club will continue to push hard to financially assist the EFC in recruiting players to achieve division one success. EFC president Dean Philpots and coach Phil Maylin addressed the 23 members of the group who attended the evening, briefing them on the off and on-field approaches. The Panther Club is in its fourth year of operation and is a key ingredient in the EFC mix. The Panther Club is always welcoming new members and will be organising a number of social gatherings during the year. 21/01 Committee Ramblings No.2
In an eventful EFC committee meeting, major conflicting ideals caused a division over capital spending on the terrace seating.       After much debate the compassionate left held firm over the facist right wing conservative viewpoint with the project getting the green light.
In other hightlights, the current 3D snarling Panther logo which has been around for 6 years was under attack with the committee agreeing to trial a new style logo on this seasons Panther baseball caps. The traditionalist will be pleased with the revival of the old 2D full length jumping Panther.
Treasurer Bopper Smith tabled a budget surplus, the junior registration day was targeted as an important event and a review of progress on the Central Park changing rooms development were other significant events.

14/01 Panthers Hit the Track
The enthusiastic Panther brigade re-commenced their pre-season training on Monday 13 January under the watchful eye of new coach Phil Maylin.       A few new recruits with very high credentials were introduced and warmly welcomed to the Panther den. Phil outlined the process training would take in the lead up to the first game against local rivals Lower Plenty. During January the boys will concentrate on skill and fitness, February would see the introduction of the game plan and through March match practice.
The cook is in the kitchen preparing away. The restlessness in anticipation of what feast will be presented is growing. Stay posted to the Panther web-site for the breaking news as it happens.

06/12 Committee Ramblings No.1
The EFC committee had their first full meeting on Wednesday.       As announced Leigh Miller has accepted a position on the committee last month. Further to this, the committee has made another coup by snaring the services of Matthew "Mouse" Tallack. Yes, another vibrant Panther prodigy willing to volunteer his time to assist in moving the Club to greater heights.
Any additional members willing to take on the challenge and join the 9 brave souls already bearing committee ribbons come forward when the courage surfaces.
The major items on the agenda at the committee meeting included player development initiatives coordinated with the EJFC, 2003 capital works projects, finance & banking proposals to assist with accountability, membership schemes, sponsorship & business partnership opportunities, targeted fund raising activities and player recruitment.
The committee would be grateful to receive feedback from members and supporters on how the Club can improve its operations. 02/12 Steve Herbert a Panther
It is exciting times ahead for the Panther Park community with the election of Steve Herbert as the new member for Eltham.       Steve will be the new local representation in the Victorian Parliament after he successfully deposed incumbent Wayne Phillips, who had held the seat since it was established in 1992.
Steve had visited Eltham Central Park on a number of occasions during the football season taking a genuine interest in the fortunes of the local club. He had obviously campaigned tirelessly in the area and was deserving of celebratory refreshments, which he accepted at the Eltham Bowling Club on Saturday night.
Steve along with Sports Minister Justin Maddan pledged $170,000 for an extensive upgrade to the Eltham Central Park changing rooms. The Eltham FC welcomes this initiative and is looking forward to working with the Cricket Club and the Nillumbik Shire Council to ensure the funds are applied to their optimum so there is maximum benefit for the community.
The Eltham FC is hopeful the funds will be made available in the early phase of this governments new term in office as the change room facilities are in poor condition and are no where near a standard that is acceptable for our young community members. The Eltham FC will seek the assistance of Steve Herbert in relation to this concern.
The project will be the showpiece to the other 2003 capital works initiatives the Eltham FC committee is embarking on. First on the agenda is a new brick scoreboard, including time clock and the facilities to house the umpires. Secondly, the seating capacity on the terrace is to be tripled to increase comfort for spectators. Finally, with funding permitting, the upgrade to the ground lighting will be finished with the addition of two further poles and four lights to guarantee perfect conditions for Friday night football.
It is without doubt that the Eltham FC is buzzing and will be a magic place to be in 2003.

02/12 Phil Takes Charge
Phil Maylin will commence full on training with the eager Panther boys tonight for the much awaited 2003 campaign.       Phil addressed the team last Wednesday and promised exciting times ahead. Training is at the Susan Street Oval on Monday and Wednesdays from 6pm until 7.30pm. Non-compulsory additional sessions on Friday 6am and Sunday 8.30am.

25/11 Phil Maylin On Board
The Eltham Panthers have secured the services of last seasons Western Bulldogs coach Phil Maylin.       In a significant boost for the Club as it strives for 1st division success, Maylin has accepted the exciting challenge of developing a young Club full of enthusiam to their next level.
Phil played 122 AFL games with Carlton and the Western Bulldogs, playing in the 1981-82 AFL premiership teams. He captain-coached Springvale to the 1990 VFA/VFL premiership and has been the assistant coach for 6 years to Terry Wallace since 1997.

20/11 Phillips Roves Madden
Eltham Cricket Club President and Nillumbik Shire Councillor Lionel Draper contacted current sitting member for Eltham Wayne Phillips regarding the funding for an upgrade to the changing rooms at Eltham Central Park.       Mr Phillips, Liberal Party candidate for Eltham in the coming State election, said that his party would match the offer of Labour if the Liberal Party gained office.
Eltham Football Club President Dean Philpots agreed that it was great news for cricket and football that both major political parties agreed there was a need to upgrade the facilities at the ground. "At the end of the day the community is the winner," Mr Philpots stated.

12/11 Madden Rucking for Eltham
The State Minister for Sport Justin Madden visited Eltham Central Park today to provide his support for local Labour Party candidate Steve Herbert.       Club representative Steve Kilby met with Mr Madden and Mr Herbert and was pleased when he heard them announce that a Labour State Government would provide $150,000 for an upgrade to the existing player changing rooms at Eltham Central Park.
"The change rooms are in dire need for a facelift," Mr Kilby remarked. "These government funds thankfully pledged by Justin Madden today would go a long way in helping the Club continue to provide the opportunity for our youth to participate in sport in an environment that is acceptable to community standards."

12/11 Pre-Season Training Commences
Pre-season training will commence for the 2003 season on Wednesday 20th November at the Susan Street Oval from 6pm to 7pm.       All players interested in taking on the challenge that first division presents Eltham, met up with your fellow crusaders.

30/10 Leaping Joins 2003 Committee
Leigh Miller has joined the push for 2003 success by coming on board to fight for good, justice and the Panther way.       At the Annual General Meeting held during the month all committee members from 2002 were eager to continue moving the Eltham Football Club forward. Highlighted at the meeting was the need to gain further off field support to ensure the Club meets its objectives.

Those objectives were again canvassed at the meeting:
(1) Make a profit
(2) Improve facilities
(3) Develop players

The committee will continue its heavy recuitment of committee people and has a few more names on the list. Now is not the time to sit back and watch. It is time to have a fair dinkum crack and see how far we go.
