After two refused clearances by Norwood in the Eastern League. The Eltham Football Club has finally been able to secure a clearance at our third application for 205 cm ruckman Jamie Smith.

Jamie 24, who is a development player on Collingwood’s VFL list, is most likely to make his debut as an Eltham Panther against Heidelberg this coming week.

The following is from the Collingwood website

Jamie Smith

Height: 205cm Weight: 99kg

Date of Birth: 29/5/1991

Recruited From: Norwood (EFL)

Background: At a towering 205cm, Smith stands head and shoulders over the rest of the Collingwood VFL list. He enters the club as a project ruckman who will no doubt gain a wealth of experience from the likes of Brodie Grundy, Jarrod Witts and Mason Cox. The 23-year-old played six games for Norwood in the Eastern Football League last year, lining up alongside former AFL players Matthew Bate (Melbourne) and Jordan Gysberts (Melbourne and North Melbourne). Development will remain the focus for Smith this year, but with height on his side he may pose a daunting match up for opposition ruckmen.

Dale Tapping Says: Jamie is a 205cm ruckman from Norwood in the Eastern Football League. We feel that he will develop his game, particularly over the next twelve months. He’s fit and just learning the game. The big guys normally take a bit longer to develop. At 205cm, those sorts of guys are pretty rare to come into the program. We will give him every opportunity to develop as best as he can.
